Life is so twisted at times. You think everything will go well as you have anticipated; you dare to dream, and lived live to the fullest, because you were so sure that everything will be alright. Then, you got sidetracked, and pushed off the road by something unexpected, something inconceivable.

What will you do, then?

You pick yourself up, and keep on moving. Look in front of you, at the vast ocean of opportunities that is available to you. There must be one which is right for you. There are some things in life which are just not meant to be, and none of us are meant to be losers. Prove the naysayers wrong. Rise against the odds; your tenaciousness will pull you through.

That will make your win sweet, as those who looked down on you and wish that you will fail have to watch you bask in your glory. There can be no better feeling than that.

Life is twisted, in a good way.

Is it so hard to understand, so hard to comprehend?

Why the huff and puff, the huff and puff?

Are you wondering, questioning?

What’s the rush, what’s the hurry?

Well, let me tell you this, seriously

I got a point to prove

Now are you puzzled?

What’s the smile for, what’s the laugh for?

Oh well, it’s more of a smirk,

‘Cause I’m halfway there

In proving the point

*smirk*

How many times have you picked up a book  that you thought would be nice, because that’s what you have been told, only to know after reading it thoroughly that the book is not what you think, or what others say it is. A lot of times, I can tell you, because this happen to all of us, almost everyday.

The amount of books and law reports one has to read to do well in LLB

We meet someone new, and we judge them immediately, and vice versa. Our judgment depends on a lot of factors, which includes people’s opinion on that person, whether the person look and act presentable or not among others.

Meeting people and getting to know them is like choosing and reading a book. Hence, it is cliche to say, “don’t judge a book by its cover“.

A book may have a shiny and glossy cover, but only to disappoint its reader with distorted facts, bad plots, or tasteless humour. We all know how misleading a book sypnosis can be.

The same can be said about people. We might perceive someone as being friendly, good-natured and nice intitially, only to discover how nasty that person can be.

And of course, like books, we have variety when it comes to people; comedy (the funnyman), fantasy (the dreamer), science (geeks), history (erm…old people who start their conversations with” when i was young..”, sports (the jocks).

I have “read” my shares of “books” like all of you. There was one book that I thought was funny and refreshing, but it turned out to be narrow and ”thick”. There was another which I thought was boring and dry, but was actually enlightening.

Like reading a book, we should take our time to get know someone, before jumping to any conclusion. If we give in to the urge to flip to the last page of a book, we might never know the wonderful stories contained in that book. While it is sometimes a pain to read page by page and word by word, it is important that we appreciate the work of the author behind the book, and the reasons the conclusion was made as such.

Remember, inside all of us is a book, a story of our lives and who we are, a story that is slowly unfolding to the people around us day by day as they read us page by page. The impression that we create are all like book covers, it is superficial.

What kind of book are you?

I wonder whether it is right to do it; will it bring anything good, or will it be better to let the their ship sail its own course?

If there is one reason why I will not make a good mother is that I am too overprotective. No, I’m not talking about motherhood, but about people around me.

They’ll learn, let them fall, and get up on their own effort. That will make them stronger and wiser. They will cope, better than me and everyone else. No lesson is better than one’s experience.

I can only stand on the sidelines and watch. I can only pray that the world will not be tough on them as it was for me, and they won’t falter, or there won’t be anyone else to blame but me, me who did not take their hands and lead them all the way.

They’ll be good, they have to be.

Believe is all we need, that amidst all the chaos and “animality”, humans are still capable of being humane, that deep inside all of us, there is still a sense of humanity that keep us human.

Believe is something that keep us sane; believing that the sacrifices, the labour, the hardwork is worth it, is worth it because things will change, for better.

It is that believe that will steer us closer to our goals, our dreams, our aims. The relentless positiveness, and the BELIEVE that we have come so far, so civilised, so progressive to be incapable of such spitefulness.

Believe is all one need.

It is cliche to say, “a new year, a new beginning”, but I’ll be continuing from where I left off last year, rather than starting a clean slate. After all, last year wasn’t a bad year at all.

I spent the last day of 2008 doing something I have not done for the last one year and something that I will probably not be doing again at least for the next 6 months: being idle. It was great to say the least. I missed being a couch potato.

The feeling of a new year is not even settling in yet, but I will already be on the move tomorrow as I head to Ipoh for the Rotary Conference. Barely a week after returning from Ipoh, I will be on a road trip with the ATC Rotaracters to Penang. Then, I’ll be the last week of the first month in 2009 back in Teluk Intan, catching up with some old pals.

As usual, it’s gonna be a “backpacking year” again. Already, I can’t wait for March :)

Hello 2009.
