Monthly Archives: August 2008

Months of agony, exasperation and anxiousness all evaporated, thanks to this one single sentence, “Congratulations, you passed”. What a relief to hear those words from a friend who was kind enough to check my results online the night before it was officially released by the college. It took me half an hour to digest the fact that I have got through my Intermediate, and another half and hour to realize that I have not only passed by Intermediate, but I did it with flying colours.

I couldn’t believe it. The next day, just to make sure I wasn’t hallucinating, I decided to recheck my results online.

Then I went to college in between work to get my result slip. I know this sounds silly, but then, I would only be truly convinced that I passed when I get my results slip. Alas, fate was playing some perverse game with me, as my results slip, together with the slips of other students who have their candidate number starting with 321**,  were not delivered to the college by the Lembaga Peperiksaan Malaysia. According to the college, I might have to wait for one week to get it. My misery was only comforted by the fact that the online results of my friends and college-mates tally with the results printed on their respective result slips. So, another week of misery, albeit a lesser one. But really, where are my results?

26th August: Mugged (Robbed of my laptop, wallet and very expensive laptop backpack, and bloddy beaten up)

27th August: Venue and date for RAC-ATC Charter Celebration and First Installation Charity Banquet finally confirmed, thanks to Chris. (Best Western Premier Seri Pacific @ 10th October – tickets at RM65 – make sure you guys come!)

28th August: Passed with flying colours :)

Lightning, thunder, darkness and rain dancing in unison

I sit alone, with you my newfound friend at this second

As I explore the intricacies of life, sounds and sights accompanied our liaison

But none more comforting than these beautiful words

These beautiful words, they are my voice and sense

Like you my new friend, they are my companions

Thank you god for not taking them away from me

Like they have taken my old friend into oblivion

But you can’t heal these scars, beautiful words

For that I am glad I have my kin and peers

Thank you and sorry are all I can say with these beautiful words

For your concern, worries and all those fear

I am smiling as I finally understand

That this island is not the place I want to live

I am waiting for that yacht to take me to another land

Where my sanctuary lays, a place of solace and peace

Thank you beautiful words for accompanying me

You have helped me built this door on these walls

These walls will stand forever as they are my strength and life

But perhaps it’s time to open the door; don’t you think so beautiful words?

KUALA LUMPUR: A group of law students have been admitted to Hospital Bahagia Tanjung Rambutan under supervision after being diagnosed with Post-exam Traumatic Stress Disorder (PETSD) and Pre-result Nervous Stress Disorder (PRNSD). It was reported that these students have been showing symptoms of the illnesses immediately after completing their respective final law papers. The symptoms include insomnia, and obessisive-compulsive disorder culminated by the repetitive question of “when’s the results coming out?” and statements such as “I think I screw up my Public Law”

According to Professor Wayne Morrison, the Director of the hospital, the patients’ conditions were possibly triggered by the several false alarms that have been given on the probable release date for the results. He also noted that lack of confidence, and extreme worry on the probability of referrels and failures as the reason for manifestation of the conditions.

The students were admitted to the hospital on the advice of the hospital’s specialist as they may pose threat to the general public. Those suffering from PETSD and PRNSD are prone to biting someone’s head off, easily irritable and will develop tendencies to write meaningless and absurd blog posts.

Unfortunately, the cure for the conditions have not been found yet. However, experts have speculated that the hospital may have the right cure, but they are waiting for the right time to release it, possibly sometime next week.

Meanwhile, doctors have advised the public to admit anyone suspected of the conditions immediately to Hospital Bahagia, where they would receive a treatment called Pre-result Movie Marathon to help them cope with PETSD and PRNSD.

Have you ever wondered why is life full of disappointments? There are times you wonder if it is true that every cloud has a silver lining, when all you have stumbled upon are clouds accompanied with thunderstorms and lightning. Well I say, ride the cloud, and brave the thunderstorms and lightning!

Life sucks because things do not always go the way you want it to be. You hate the suprises that life have been dishing out to you as not only they have caught you off guard each time, but they have made your life more miserable. You wonder if the guy up there is playing some kind of perverse games with you as the paths that you have chosen are often filled with booby traps.

But life is a choice, not a chance. Life is not all about luck, but it’s about making the right move. If luck has its way in life, no amount of determination, perseverance and pure hard work will make a person successful.

We do not seek the silver lining in clouds, but we should empower ourselves to create those silver linings.

I am now standing on some very dark clouds, with fiery lightnings and thunders around me. I cannot see the sun yet, but it doesn’t mean it is not there. The day will come when the clouds around me will have silver linings, all painted by me, and those beside me. I will live to see that day.

So, it isn’t tomorrow after all. In Judgment Day, I have announced that the LLB exam results will be out tomorrow based on my reliable sources. It turns out that it will be out between 21st August to 28th August.

So, the wait continues. Sigh.

The world is a theatre and your life is the play

The play is scripted in such a cynical way

There were times when you thought you have lost the plot

As you tried to comprehend the complexity of this knot

Judas, Brutus and Cassius rule the Earth

It’s unfortunate but you’re surrounded with such filth

Where is the truth and who do you trust?

You view the society with full of disgust

Little wonder why you live in recluse

You wish that one day you will meet Zeus

And ask him why he made the world such

It has been overwhelming, a little bit too much

You tried to understand the rules of the game

Join them to beat them, that was your aim

You became a pretender, someone you despise

Now you are sick of your own disguise

It is time to return to where you belong

Where you’ll regain your sense of right and wrong

Now wish upon the stars with one single hope

That one day, you’ll stop being a misanthrope

~

Dedicated to all pretenders and misanthropes

There was once when I stood before a frontier

Unsure and afraid of what lies ahead

I was apprehensive to step in to that sphere

For I was afraid of being misled

Now I have crossed the Rubicon, I shall stride forward

If I ever fall down, I’ll pick myself up and say

I will not to give up or give in, as I am no coward

Nothing can stop me, come what may

This journey is tiring, but it will be worthwhile

I have started this walk, and I intend to finish it

Even if the path is as long as the River of Nile

Even if I have to make it through bit by bit

If I ever run off-course, please guide me back

If I ever forget my destination, please remind me of it

I know I cannot do it alone, not on this track

I know I cannot do it alone, that I will admit

When I reach my destination I shall not forget

Why I started the journey and how I got there

I’ll remember all the obstacles I faced and the people I met

I promise that my life then will not be a vanity fair

It's good to have you back, Gazza

The new Barclays’ Premier League season started the way it ended (and started) last season, with Manchester United winning the trophy at stake through penalty shoot-out thanks to Edwin van der Sar’s heroics (and chokers from the opposing team). Once again, the FA Charity Shield is won by the reigning BPL Champions, Man United.

Man Utd fans would be happy with the performance of the team yesterday as they played well against last season’s FA Cup champions without many of their first-team players. The back-four was as solid as ever, and it is entertaining to see Patrice Evra and Gary Neville bombarding down the flanks. Darren Fletcher and Luis Nani both showed us that Cristiano Ronaldo would not be missed if he was ever to leave the team this, or next season. Paul Scholes has not lost his magical touch despite ageing one year, and John O’Shea vindicated his inclusion in the first team.

One major source of concern would be the striker department. Despite all their hardwork and creative plays, Carlos Tevez and Ryan Giggs are not natural finishers. Wayne Rooney, who was unfit to play yesterday, is more suitable to play off a goal poacher, and I do not think the team can depend on Ronaldo emulating his goal-machine performance last season. Louis Saha is reliable when not injured, but they don’t call “Mr. Glass” for nothing. Frazier Campbell has earned the praise of Sir Alex Ferguson, but he is still unproven.

A few names have been mentioned to fill in that gap, and none too prominent than the prolific Bulgarian, Dimitar Berbatov. He has proven himself in the Premier League, and he would no doubt ease in to the team. Tottenham Hotspurs, understandably, is reluctant to let him go, considering that they have just sold Robbie Keane to Liverpool. However, we may get to see Berbatov in the famous Red shirt come the kick-off if United match the asking price, and if Spurs sign a new striker,

If the Berbatov deal does not go through, I reckon that Ferguson should sign Roque Santa Cruz. Like Berbatov, he has proven his pedigree in the English league. Plus, he is much younger, and comes at a cheaper price. Paul Ince would however be hard-pressed to sell off his star striker, as he plots the descend of Blackburn Rovers to the top four of the league.

The most shocking news may be that Ferguson is considering signing Thierry Henry. If the deal materialises, the manager can no doubt bring the best out of the aging French striker, just like he did with Henrik Larsson a couple of seasons ago. However, it would be unlikely that Henry will agree to the move. He is a Gunner through and through. Asking him to move to Old Trafford would be like asking David Beckham to move to Liverpool.

There is another mouth-watering option available for Ferguson, Klass-Jan Huntelaar. The player himself has not ruled out a move to Premier League. Considering Ajax Amsterdam’s tendency to sell off their star players (such as Wesley Sneijder, Rafael Van der Vaart, Ryan Babel and Dennis Bergkamp), this deal may likely go through if Ferguson is in for it.

The transfer window is moving agonisingly near to closing to Man United fans, as the team has not made any new major signings. Ferguson has hinted that he would be signing someone possibly this week. Who would it be?
